Last year, I had the opportunity to dive into my first music business role outside of my work as an artist, serving as a marketing assistant. This position led to me becoming a co-lead for the company’s editing program, which was both surprising and exciting. I had very little prior experience in editing, having only just begun exploring the tools a few weeks before stepping into the role. Initially, I had hoped to focus on pitching for artists’ brands and projects, one of my favorite aspects of marketing, but I decided to dive into editing and see what I could achieve.

Growing up, I often doubted myself and my capabilities, but each challenge has shown me that perseverance pays off. Throughout my time with the company, I submitted edits, joined meetings, promoted the platform and its artists, explored new areas like A&R, and even participated in my first tour stop. Each experience helped me grow professionally and personally, expanding my skill set in ways I hadn’t anticipated. My friend K.I.D. and I even flew ourselves out to California to attend one of their events. From buying music equipment in high school to this, I’ve always found ways to invest in my future.

Eventually, I made the decision to part ways with the company. While I faced some challenges regarding agreed-upon compensation, I’ve chosen to focus on the growth and experience I gained rather than let it weigh on me mentally. I’m still pursuing what is owed, but I’m not letting it define or hold me back. I trust that these experiences are shaping me and preparing me for future opportunities, and I see them as valuable lessons in resilience and professional awareness.

These experiences have further inspired my vision for my nonprofit, where I plan to educate others on communication, healthy business practices, reading contracts, and navigating professional relationships in the music industry. I’m grateful for the incredible people I met and the opportunities I had, and I now feel a renewed sense of focus and energy to invest in building myself and my creative future.
